A Great Opportunity

“And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.”  Mark 12:42-44

The_Widows_MiteDear Brethren,

Christianity, America and the whole of Western civilization is at a cross-roads. If we are to lay a foundation of applied Biblical Scholarship for the express purpose of cultural renovation for the next generation the time is NOW. If we miss this opportunity it may very well be too late for any progress in the years to come.

The New Geneva Academy in conjunction with its parent non-profit Theological Institution the ITR has been given a tremendous opportunity by the merciful providence of God. The ITR has just secured a substantial piece of property across from its already existing library of more than 100,000 books, pdf and microfiche documents in downtown Appomattox, Virginia. The purpose of this purchase is to build a small conference center with additional library space which will house the R.J. Rushdoony Library of 48,000 books, making New Geneva and the ITR one of the largest libraries in Virginia, if not the largest to date.

The facility will be used as a research and resource center to train cultural leaders, ministers, evangelists,200px-Genevan_Consistory gospel ambassadors and statesmen. It will be like the Geneva of Calvin’s day where Knox once commented that the school at Geneva was “The most perfect school of Christ that ever was on earth since the days of the Apostles”. We want to realize this once again as we embark on a new reformation.

While we have the property we do not have the funds to build the building. Wonderfully, however, new construction prices in Appomattox are relatively low compared to other U.S. cities. Moreover, Appomattox is located in the heart of Virginia, easily accessible from several of the East Coast States and developing quickly.

widows-mite1In order to realize this we need others to share both the vision and the passion that we have for this project. We are asking you to give like the widow gave in Mark 12. We need to raise approximately $200,000 – $225,000 for this to become a much needed reality.

This building will not only house the conference center and the library, it will be coupled with our existing building to provide a campus like atmosphere for both our students and the entire community.

Will you please consider being part of this project?

All donations are tax deductible and checks should be made out to the ITR.

Thank you for your prayers and support in this most critical time of our history.

Laxity & Defeat Or Action & Victory

battle warriorMuch of the Postmodern Christian sentiment is one of laxity and indifference. Unlike historical Christendom, today’s church has sequestered itself within the four wall of their building apparently insensitive  to both the world around them and/or the Divine commission to take dominion over the earth for the glory of God. [1]

For those remnant saints who repudiate this “two-Kingdom”[2] mindset, their passion is for the establishment of Christ’s Kingdom Majesty and His crown rights “On earth, as it is in Heaven.” Theirs is a theology of action; doing the Word, not being hearers only. They are not deceived since they understand that Christianity is an applied faith and God’s Law is the only Righteous construct for all of civilization.

The New Geneva Academy seeks to perpetuate this truth through scholarship and training for the application of God’s Law word for every institution of the societal order.

Geneva is not for everyone. It is only for those that desire to learn as to do. [3]
It is for those who want to change the way things are to the way things ought to be.
It is for the studious and the courageous.

What is taught at Geneva, and the way in which it is presented, is unique in that it follows the Biblical model of education.

Geneva offers a myriad of options from a full scale undergraduate and graduate education to specialized scholarship training in targeted areas of study. Tailored to fit any schedule, Geneva offers real solutions to real cultural problems. If you really want to change the world you have to start somewhere. Why not Geneva? Be a part of the vision. Be a part of the victory.

[1] Ge 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Jos 1:3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.
5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. 6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

Mt 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:

[2] The Two Kingdom heresy states that the physical world belongs to Satan and therefore, since the saint is not of this world, and the Kingdom of God is not of this world, he should not be involved in any affairs in of the world. For this heresy the Gospel is only about saving individuals and not establishing the Crown Rights of King Jesus on earth as it is in Heaven. For more on this see:

Countering the Revisionists

Please assist me in promoting this project from my good friend Bill Heid. He is producing professional audio CD dramatizations of GA Henty’s work which have been the bedrock of literary education for many years.

Lee CD CoverHis latest work focuses on ‘General Robert E Lee in Virginia’ featuring the voice over by Kirk Cameron, Sean Astin and others. [He is currently producing the history of the Common Law of England via King Alfred whose passion for God’s Law framed Western Civilization’s jurisprudence.]

The work seeks to impress upon young and old alike the love and accuracy of History and its influence on Western Civilization from an explicitly Christian vantage point.

With a growing national disdain for real American History and its Christian impact upon our nation this work is timely.

Please do everything you can to promote this on your blogs, Facebook pages, Google Plus page,Twitter and anything you can think of. Share it with others and encourage them to promote it as well.

Thank you.

Geneva’s UPDATE for the 2015

New Geneva has been very busy with their new 800 sq ft library extension and added courses to their course tracts. In July we acquired 2000 theological books from Dr Gary North and housed them in our new library wing.  In January we are scheduled to pick up 1500 more books from Dr. North’s library on history and economics which are presently being held for us at the Mises Institute.   New Wing Private study areaNew Wing 3In 2015 Geneva will be working on several projects. Here are a listing of some of our plans for 2015.

(1) New Geneva is hoping to set up an MBA course tract for those who wish to go into business and entrepreneurship endeavors.

(2) Geneva is also scheduled to acquire another 1500 History and Economic books from the Gary North Library which is presently being held at the Mises Institute.New Wing 4

(3) Pastor Paul Michael Raymond will be writing for Chalcedon’s Faith For all Of Life Magazine on a regular basis.

(4) Geneva is also hoping to solidify a radio broadcast schedule for the South Sudanese people sometime in the Spring.

(5) Geneva has plans for a U-Tube channel partnering with other Theonomic/Christian Reconstruction ministries.

Please pray for these projects to come to fruition.

Internship at New Geneva

internship-1It has always been our hope to bring student interns to work and study on site at New Geneva. The intern program would consist of research projects at the College Library, general office work and maintenance, and of course class time under the supervision of Dr. Paul Michael Raymond and some of the professorial staff at the college. In return, Geneva would offer either a partial or a full 2 year scholarship, including full use of the library and media research room. The problem Geneva faces is that, at this time, it cannot offer housing. Some students may be able to stay with Geneva’s local church families but that option is very limited.

All options hinge upon financial support. One such option is where Geneva, through donations, would purchase a small house to be used for male interns. (Female interns would be placed with families.) The second option is to gain enough financial support to purchase a small building where dorm rooms could be set up along with space to add another library wing.

We had always hoped for  R.J. Rushdoony’s library to be moved here. While that may not be immediately possible perhaps we could bring only part of that Books in stacks 2library to Geneva on a rotational yearly schedule so our students, and the community,  could benefit. Since Appomattox is a tourist attraction, seated in the heart of the Civil War’s Northern Army surrender, the library would also be a tourist attraction dedicated to the work and legacy of R.J. Rushdoony. It would be cared for, cataloged and maintained by Geneva’s interns and local volunteers of the Reformed Bible Church.

Real estate in Appomattox is very affordable especially in the town where Geneva is located. For example: The building adjacent to Geneva is available for $150,000. It is a two story building of approximately 40′ x 200”. It includes a parking lot and a store front entrance on Main Street, which is the  very the heart of Appomattox, along with a side entrance emptying at  Geneva’s front door. There may even be the possibility of dividing the unit for the half closest to  Geneva’s library. This half includes the parking lot and would more than double Geneva’s existing space. It would truly make Geneva a College campus rather than a College building. Like many of the buildings in town this one is a historic landmark and would need some renovation. Over time that can be done by our volunteers and interns. To be sure it is prime real estate for those with a future generational vision.

We are open to suggestions how to alleviate our internship and expansion dilemmas. Please pray that God would open a door of opportunity for us to use Geneva for the greater glory of Christ. Many thanks for your suggestions in advance.

The Logos of Rhetoric

scriptureScripture must be used for it to be effective.  It must be used in its entirety and comprehensively applied to every single area of life. God’s world must be conformed to God’s Word. This concept is academic, or at least it should be to all those professing Christ.

In order for an individual to be proficient in the declaration of Scripture he or she needs to first understand the Commands of Scripture and its application principles. This takes much time and study. It is the road that only the faithful take and one that is full of both blessing and affliction. Yet, it is the only path that can satisfy the Regenerate’s heart, fulfilling his or her life in abundance.

Part of the Christian learning process, however, should not merely be concerned with Biblical facts. The learning process also involves the method of delivery of those facts. The declaration of Biblical Truth requires an understanding of what the Greeks call ‘Rhetoric’ and what the Christians might call ‘Homiletics’. Both of these refer to the art of persuasive preaching.

Rhetoric Defined

prophetIn our modern world the term ‘Rhetoric’ usually denotes something negative or untrue. It is connected mostly to political drivel which is crafted to confuse or misguide. The proper meaning actually simply refers to persuasive discussion or speech. Everyone uses rhetoric to some degree especially when they are trying to convince another of their point of view. This is very true for teenagers who constantly try to persuade their parents of a thing which they are passionate about, like why they should have access to the family vehicle. Evangelism is also a form of rhetoric since it is the art of persuasion by declaring the Truth of God’s Word and how it ought to be applied to everyday life.

The Components of Rhetoric

There are three essential components of Rhetoric; Logos, Pathos and Ethos. These are the tools used to persuade others. The difference between the Greek concept of Rhetoric and the Christian concept of Rhetoric is the work of God the Holy Spirit. Only God can effectively persuade another of the Truth. It is He who must intervene into the deadness of man’s heart to move him to believe. No human argument, no matter how perfect, can regenerate a soul. Yet, it is the Christian’s task to skillfully set forth the Gospel in such a way that it honors the glory and perfection of the Scripture. In this way the Christian can put to silence the gainsayers and blasphemers while making a case for the application of Scripture to every area of life.

The Logos

This refers to the facts of the Scripture. The logos is unbiased and impassioned. It is the basic content of the message, its nuts and bolts. All Christians need to know the facts of Scripture in order to share it accurately. In order to do this, courses in Systematic Theology, Apologetics and Philosophy are essential.

The Pathos

Pathos refers to the ‘passion’ both of the hearer and the deliverer of the message. While the deliverer of the message must do so with firm passionate conviction, the message must resonate with the hearer as well. This means it must be made personal. The passion of the hearer must be touched. The Scriptures talk endlessly about issues which touch each and every individual on a personal, even an emotional level. The Rhetorician must make the message personal. It must appeal to the Pathos.

The Ethos

This mainly reflects the character of the rhetorician. If the character of the individual declaring the gospel is marred in any, he or she will be seen as a hypocrite and the message will be compromised. An unblemished Christian character and testimony is extremely important in evangelism. This is perfected over time within the community so that it is made evident to all. Once a consistent ethos is established, unhindered evangelism is made possible.

Courses in Rhetoric

New Geneva offers an extensive course in Rhetoric and Homiletics at the College Level along with courses in Systematic Theology, Apologetics, Epistemology and Philosophy. These are perfect for home school senior students or adults who desire to hone their skills in the Gospel presentation.

The Genevan Alternative

warfareChristians who are seriously considering changing the “IS” to the “Ought” must count the cost. This is true for every endeavor but never so much as when the call is Christ’s.  Once these costs are considered there must be a realization that a certain type of committed passion also must be in place. Without passion for the vision of a Christian community the effort will fail. Vitality and a strong emotional commitment is essential. However there is one other component necessary – education.

Since so many pulpits have abandoned the aspect of teaching from the pulpit, Christians are left without the real meat of the Word of God. Without the tools for the comprehensive application of the great commission Christians remain defenseless against the onslaught of Humanism. While this is bad enough congregations are reduced to “pew warmers” by being deprived of an offensive strategy whereby they can take dominion over those areas of society that Christ has called them to.

The Spirit Filled Warrior

God calls His people to be well equipped for the battle. He commands them to be clothed with the armor of the Word of God according to Ephesians 6. He also calls them to be filled with knowledge, understanding, wisdom and skill. Without these components success is futile. Consider the list.

As a result of redemption God grants His saints the means to knowledge. Knowledge does not come by osmosis. It is gained through the study of God’s Revelation. By it men learn the truth and are able to distinguish between good and evil. Yet knowledge alone is dangerous since it leads to pride and arrogance. Knowledge is not understanding and therefore not beneficial by itself.

Understanding insinuates that after learning the basics of God’s Word, the individual then understands the ramifications250px-Saint_Augustine_by_Philippe_de_Champaigne of it. By the Grace of God the saints learn that knowledge and understanding are not to be divided. They work together and can only work together if they are to be profitable. Understating is knowing what God’s Relational knowledge is intended for.

Next comes wisdom. This is the application of the Word. It is knowing ‘how’ Knowledge and Understanding are applied to the real world. Wisdom teaches how to apply the precepts of God’s
Law-Word to men and nations. Knowing how to do something does not necessary enable the individual the means to actually do it. That requires skill.

Skill is the actual ability to carry out a tactical strategy or task. It is the performance of a thing usually according to expert  capabilities. I can know the rules of the chess game. I can know what each piece means, and does. I can even understand how to move them on the chess board and play the game. But that does not automatically give me the skill to play effectively or successfully. It certainly does not ,in and of itself, give me the ability to be a champion. That only comes by developing the skill.

All of these component are essential and must work together if the Kingdom of God is to be advanced. Bible schools and colleges no longer accomplish this. Neither do the churches. What we need is an alternative to the apostasy which has pervaded our so-called Theological institutions. What is needed is a new paradigm – a new model- which is not at all new but simply forgotten. I believe New Geneva is the answer to Christendom’s dilemma.

The Semester Strategy at new Geneva

Divinity LibraryFor first year students at New Geneva we recommend the following courses all of which set up a Biblical foundation of World View Studies. These studies enable the student to rightly analyze the various disciplines of the cultural order from a Scriptural vantage point. The lessons are given via correspondence with interactive discussions with each professor monitoring the course. For each course a series of lectures are issued along with several reading assignments initially focusing on educating for knowledge and understanding of the topic, and then for wisdom and skill in leadership application of the material taught.

In the second semester Geneva moves the student to focus on a theological tract. This includes courses in Systematic Theology and apologetics all of which are taught with a view to apply them to the cultural order.

Within the first year of study each student becomes very well versed in both the details of the disciplines studied and how they can be effectively executed in the world. This means that by way of discussion and study the student is challenged to think “Kingdom Advancement” in concrete terms.

Geneva goes beyond abstractionism. Each professor draws out of the student a real strategy for Biblical Reconstructionjohn-calvin-37-150x150 which is to them be actually executed in the realm of God’s world. This is where Geneva is likened to an internship where the student gets hands-on encouragement and training for the tasks of Cultural transformation. We impress upon each student that they have a divine responsibility before God to get something done. That is their duty and they will be held answerable to that call. Geneva can assist in that realization
